(:D I do write with humour sometimes, too!!
I find life terrifically funny a lot of the time, which is good for the heart!!

Second-Hand Tattoo

I often seek to save on things,
I buy clothes "formerly worn;"
furniture throughout our house
and hangings that our wall adorn
are "not quite new" and "once reborn,"
but in my search for things not new....
one item I have yet to find
is a slightly-used second-hand tattoo!

I've searched and sought and advertised
for someone who has formerly had
the graphic that I wish tattooed
upon my tender skin, so bad.
But I've not found a single soul
who bought this artful form as new
that will consider selling me
their beautiful second-hand tattoo.

I shop the auctions and the sales,
flea markets and the antique store,
the traders' worlds and used goods shops
and read the newspaper ads galore;
but nowhere have I seen for sale -
and beg you'll tell me if YOU do -
a "formerly-loved, no-longer-wanted,
reasonably-priced" second-hand tattoo.

Now-you-see-'em, Now-you-don't.....

Now-you-see-'em-now-you-don't is what I fondly call
a funeral parlour - lay-'em-out, cry-your-eyes-out bawl.
Why, there's a photo of our friend or loved one with a smile
above his now-to-be-eternal bed, with flowers highly-piled.
Everybody comments on how the dear-departed one
looks like they're only sleeping - to questions may respond!

Now my idea of traveling from this earthly life so mild
is to have the ones who knew me well just throw a party wild!
Talk and laugh and tell the many stories of our lives,
when we were young and foolish, and then grew old and wise.
Toss my ashes to the winds to ride the waves and air;
my soul lives on and loves you still, so free and debonair.

Remember love and laughter, and fun and hugs and smiles;
Waft my ashes to the breeze, and send me off in style!

Sports??

You females like your Nascar males....
to them, the baseball buddies pale;
basketball stretches don't compare,
and football follies badly fare!
Maybe I'd better take a look
and see what made you gals forsook
the machos from the other sports,
like diamonds, fields and bb courts!

What If......

What if Life were only a jeer, and we the "straight men" here?
While the heavens shook and the angels take book
and the loser buys the beer.

What if the storms and hurricanes are all a part of the heavenly games;
and Time merely muck to mess up our luck,
and humans are all inane?

What if the chrystal chandelier is a miniature universe,
that glitters our eyes and shatters the guise
and causes our path to reverse?

What if the laughing my mind hears a-wafting
through time and space in this crazy race....
is really my epitath?

Suppose all life is just a dream, and our lives a moment squeezed between
the Gods who chortle as we think we're mortal
and nothing is as it seems?

This is a poem I wrote for a sound-a-like competition,
where you use words that sound alike but are spelled differently......

My Sound-A-Like Life

Wen Eye was ten and in-a-scent Eye new are world as fey;
Eye tract the son across the sky, and found things knew awe day.
Wen Eye tern-ed ten-and-ate one year, Eye new the world was knot

Wen Eye had aged to three-and-won, Eye bee-leaved Eye new it awl;
butt then Eye real-eyes-d the truth - my knowledge was sew small!
And sew Eye grew two fore-tea-too. Then finely five-an-ate...
the years had sum thyme happy bin, and other daze whir knot sew grate.

Butt threw it awe, Eye kept a smile up on my ugh-lee phase.
And wen Eye dye, aisle no it awe - cuz Eye red threw awl my daze!

Once in a while I think about epitaphs! Here are a couple I came up with so far.....

Epitaph I
When I was here I laughed a lot,
I loved with all my heart.
Now that I'm gone, be glad you're not
with me, and we're apart.
© J. P. Hale (:D

Epitaph II
When I breathed air, I loved and laughed,
smelled flowers to feed my soul.
Now that I'm dead, be glad you're not
beside me in this hole.

One can have a lot of fun with writing!! Another fun contest in which I participated was a *drabble,"
a writing of 100 words, no more - no less, with given keywords that must be included.
The keywords for this were *wobble,* *crow,* and *jerk.* Try it yourself!!

A Drabble

Oh my! A Drabble, a downright scrabble
to wobble my piece in one hundred words.
However in all this world so wide
will I do this 'thout losing my whey and curds.
I've thought and I've thunk 'til my head hurts so hard,
I've even consulted the tarot cards;
but what comes to mind everytime I pen?
Jerky words that rhyme, like men, wren and fen.
So what shall I do? Oh, what shall I say?
to be numbered among top crow of the day?
I must keep my treatise to one hundred bits.
Gosh, I've run out of wits.

Limericks are fun, too!!

Limerick #1 - Redbird

There was a red birdie from Dayton.
It seemed like she always was waitin'
for guys to appear
with a smile and a leer
so they could get started on matin'!
© J. P. Hale

LIMERICK - April Fool

There was a young lady from Maypool,
at birth she was named for a fool!
So each April the first
she plans for the worst,
and everyone says she is cool!
